Meet Cameron BertranD

Picture
At 29 years old, Cameron Bertrand has established himself as a pillar of the community, a driven business man, and an exemplary model of what it means to love the community and the people in it.

He has acted as a dedicated leader, a driving force behind community events, a voice of guidance for the youth, a faithful mentor, and an ever-present friend. He has been a non-profit manager, counselor, and now ventures into entrepreneurship to ensure that he will always have a platform to be a source of strength and light in the community.

WHere He's Been

Throughout his life Cameron has ignited teams, communities, and organizations with his passion for others and his faith in change. From 2010 to 2014, Cameron served four years in the United States Army as a paralegal specialist.  He graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2014 with a degree in criminology and sociology. During his undergraduate years, he won three consecutive USA South conference championships and completed a qualitative analysis and research proposal on the effects of nonprofit organizations on children's perception of success. Throughout all of his experiences he has been driven by the light of others and his mission for impact. His inherent hunger for change and his experiences with nonprofits and youth led him to a significant career with the Boys & Girls Club.

Cameron acted as an area director for the Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula. As a director, Cameron played a key role as a leader of programs, events, and clubs that nourished and guided the minds and pathways of the youth. He was a constant source of care and knowledge. And he went above and beyond to make sure that children in the community had creative outlets, resources for character and career development, and help and understanding from capable and dedicated staff and volunteers.

WHat he's been through

In November of 2015, Cameron was the victim of a life-changing violent crime. While leaving a university homecoming event, Cameron and a friend were robbed at gunpoint. Cameron suffered a life-threatening wound, and over the years he has had to cope with neurological and vascular damage to his leg. However, where most would easily cede to hate and hopelessness, Cameron used this experience to fuel his mission for change. Afterwards, Cameron partnered with Sentara and Riverside Hospital to foster an injury prevention and awareness program. Mr. Bertrand has continued to organize and support programs geared toward gun violence prevention, leadership development, and life improvement.

Cameron has shown time and time again that he will not be defeated, and that he will continue to service his community. He has used this passion and dedication to nourish his vision for Violence & Intervention Prevention. Violence Intervention & Prevention is the culmination of where Cameron has been and where he is going. And the realization of this vision will bring the community closer together and push violence further away.
